Explorers are the fourth section of Scouting following on from Scouts, aged 14-18 years, and meet between 7.45-9.15pm on a Friday. As an Explorer Scout you will be encouraged to lead yourselves, design your own programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers. You will have the opportunity to take part in camps, expeditions and adventurous activities, as well as being able to be part of The Young Leaders’ Scheme, developing your leadership skills and sense of responsibility by helping to run meetings for the other sections of the Group.
The Explorer Scout Unit is part of the District’s provision of Scouting, however in Crosland Moor it is delivered in partnership with the Scout Group and is treated as part of the Group. The Unit is run very flexibly and meetings are often held away from the Scout Centre and at different times.
As an Explorer Scout you will get the chance to earn a number of Activity badges, as well as the Chief Scout’s Platinum Award, Chief Scout’s Diamond Award and Queen’s Scout Award, the highest award in Scouting. Alongside this you will also be able to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
